Unit 30 Distinction D1. “Evaluating the impacts of evolving output mediums on the design and creation of graphic images”.

HISTORY OF THE MOBILE PHONE

Introduction

The first ever mobile phone that was released in history was in the year 1973, The inventor of the first Mobile phone was called Martin Cooper who was originally the general manager for Motorola at the time. Martin Cooper was born on the 26th of December, 1928 in Chicago He is nicknamed the ''Father of the Cell phone''.

1G

The term 1G refers to the first generation of the Mobile Phones (Wireless telephone communication). The main difference between the 1G and the 2G is the signals between the two, the 1G mobiles use an analog signal, whilst the 2G mobile networks are digital, making it easier to get a better connection between calls. On 1G phones texting didn't exist and therefore the only method of communication from these devices was calling. 1G phones weren't great for amazing sound and audio quality. There is an aerial on the top of the phone to receive signals from the person at the other end of the call. These phones were very big which meant that they were hard to carry around because of their size, they were also very delicate because it was the first generation of mobiles and therefore it was expected to have some flaws. Back in the day when these were released they were very popular because it was easier to call people instead of writing letters and sending Morse code through telegraph.

2G

The first ever 2G phone was released in Finland in 1991 by someone called ''Radiolinja''. There were many advantages to 2G phones at the time that made using these devices a lot easier. The SMS text message system that was released aloud people to send messages instantly to other people on their contacts. This was useful to them as it allows people to keep in contact at a past pace. Another good thing about 2G is that wireless connection is much better. Whilst using a 2G mobile it is easier to understand others speech and therefore talk to others on the similar mobile device. The last great advantage of 2G phones is that it's more accessible to the mobile phone user, they're much smaller and more compact which means it can easily fit in your purse or  pocket. Graphics on these phones definitely increased from 1G phones. 2G phones also introduced Bluetooth which meant that many other phone users with a 2G phones could send images, videos, music and other stuff. Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances by using short-wavelength radio transmissions.

 3G

3G phones introduced internet using a mobile device. This meant that people could access their e-mails and other websites through the internet on their mobiles. 3G phones also introduced sensitive touch screen which meant that phone users could access what they wanted by tapping on the screen. 3G also was really popular for camera and video recording, this meant that you could take videos and photos and then view them through on the gallery on the phone. They could also upload and share these videos via Apps. The 3G phone was the first generation of phone that introduced downloadable apps which are used in many different areas.

 4G

The main difference between 3G and 4G is the download and upload speed 4G should be able to perform at anywhere from 100mps to 1Gps in lab conditions. The call quality from 4G phones are also much better, it is easier to hear people as well as the speaking being a lot more clear. 4G phones are especially good for streaming videos and surfing the internet. These phones are very ideal for this as the internet speed is a lot quicker. In my opinion i don't think there is much of a difference between 3 and 4G phones, i think this because you could basically do the same thing on a 4G phone that you could have done on a 3G phone. My honest thought is that mobile manufacturers are releasing the 4G phone way to early just because they can't think of any better ideas to use for a 4G phone.

Graphics

Graphics have changed dramatically through put the past years, back when mobile phones were released graphics were pretty much non existent. When 2G mobiles were released it shocked everyone with the drastic change in the graphics, back then the graphics on 2G phones were seen as a miracle and a shock to how they were that great. As we look back on 2G phones today the graphics are laughed upon on how bad they were. To this date Graphics are seen as amazing because of how much we can do on a simple mobile device. Years ago you could play the game ''Snake'' on a mobile phone which was seen as having incredible graphics, but now a days people can play very advanced games like Fifa and Call Of Duty on their mobiles. The reason that mobile phones always change is that they don't have the components to improve the graphics on that phone, and this is why mobiles manufacturers are always competing to other companies, to try and produce the better phone which will include better graphics. I feel that one day everybody is going to look back on the graphics we have today and laugh at how bad they are compared to what they are in the future. This makes me wonder how good graphics will change in the future.

Apps

Apps to this day have changed the way that we use our phones dramatically. Back when mobiles were first released apps weren't released and people just used their phones for calling and texting. There are many different categories of apps that people use to this day, E.G. Gaming, Social networking, Shopping, Healthcare, information and many more. To this very date there is nearly an app for everything that we do, There is an app for watching videos, Sharing videos and photos, shopping, taking photos, getting directions, speaking to others, dieting and keeping fit. and much more. Apps have changed the way that people use their telephones to this date. I feel that is many years apps would have changed so much and will become a huge benefit, apps have only been available for a few years, to think what apps will be like in 10 years time really blows my mind. I think that apps that are used for messaging are nearly used more than texting and calling from this day, E.G. Skype, and Facebook. This is the reason why mobile networks such as EE, Vodafone and many other mobile networks are charging for their customers to use the internet.

  The impact of Mobile upgrades!
Over the past years there have been so many things that have changed the use of mobile phones and how we as a planet use them. Back when Mobiles were first invented they were only made for calling, these calls weren't very good as connections between 2 mobile devices were extremely bad call quality. In those days the mobile phone was seen as fantastic technology as it was a form of instant messaging which they had never seen before. Then there was the second generation of mobile phones which introduced text messaging to mobile phones, this was extremely popular as it made communication between phone users a lot more private, second generation phones were also a lot more smaller and compact which meant that you could now carry them around where ever you go. third generation phones made a huge impact on the market as this was the first generation of phone that aloud the user to surf the internet which meant that answering e-mails, shopping, gaming, social networking and many more things were available to the planet. Over the years i think that mobile phones have defiantly made an impact on then users as it allows them to enjoy a better experience. I think that mobile phones as a whole has made a huge impact on society in many different ways, i think that without mobiles a lot of things that we have today wouldn't be available to us today, i don't exactly know what wouldn't be available to use but my guess would be that a lot of technology like game devices that connect through the internet would still be going through the manufacturing process. Mobile phones have helped the world as a whole as well as businesses, there are a lot of businesses today that rely on phone calls to make money, e.g. call centers, businesses that need appointments booked over telephone and company's like ''118 118'.

3D printers

Imagine a future in which a device connected to a computer can print solid objects. These devices are called '3D Printers' and they will change society drastically in many ways. 3D printers are going to change the world as we know it because it will be used for so many great things in the future, it will be used to end so many things that people are struggling with and will defiantly make a huge impact. I definitely think that in the future 3D printers  ill be used to end world hunger, at the moment i feel that 3D printers aren't advanced enough to understand the advanced skills that it would take but i do strongly believe that flavored food will soon be printable. 3D printers are also used for printing fake limbs that people without certain limbs in there body can use. For example people could print off hands and parts of legs. This device can also print certain machinery parts so that ordering and getting parts delivered online won't be used as much.
